Should the government make scientific research a greater priority?

I’m of the opinion that the Japanese government should make scientific research a greater priority.

Japan needs science to fix various kinds of problems in our society.

I have two reasons to support my opinion.

First, Japan should dedicate more resources to the development of medical science. As we know, Japan is one of the super-aging societies in the world. This means that more and more elderly people will demand high quality healthcare. Also, if we don’t take any measures, it’s estimated that it’s nearly impossible for Japan to maintain current medical services. In order to deal with these problems, Japan should make more efforts to make the cost for medical care cheaper than right now.

Second, scientific research is needed to protect people from natural disasters. As long as we live in Japan, it’s not unnatural for us to experience large-scale earthquake at any time. However, by trying to make the accuracy of earthquake prediction higher, it may be able to save countless lives from such dangers.

From these two viewpoints, I believe that the government should make scientific research a greater priority. (184 words)
