英検1級2次試験:Are large corporations solely interested in generating profits?

Are large corporations solely interested in generating profits?

(大企業は、利益を上げることだけを考えているか?)

I disagree with the opinion that large corporations are solely pursing large profits. Many companies are actually doing various activities that don’t prioritize making profits as much as possible.

I’ll explain two examples of them to support my opinion.

First, some pharmaceutical companies manufactured vaccine for COVID-19 and distributed to many countries. According to a recent news, Pfizer Inc. sold vaccine at cost. This means that researcher and employees have worked so hard without receiving extra wages.

Second, there are many corporations that do charitable donations to local governments, local schools, and institutions in developing countries. Nowadays, there is a growing awareness of the importance of observing CSR for fixing poverty in these countries. In response to this, for example, one of the largest trading companies in Japan provided financial support to some African countries.

Considering these two examples, I don’t believe that large corporations are solely interested in generating profits. (151 words)
