I’m of the opinion that schools should put more emphasis on educating history.
I have two reasons to support my opinion.
First, we can gain knowledge about the ways of thinking that people in the past had. For example, we can learn about some mistakes such as warfare, dictatorship, and so on. In addition, we can better understand about how people made efforts to maintain Japan’s prestige as a nation. With the knowledge, we’re able to appreciate current peaceful daily lives and think more about what direction that the country should take in the future.
Second, it can be one of the communication tools with people all over the world. As the society becomes more globalized, we’re now having more opportunities to talk with people with different backgrounds. If we can explain the positive sides of Japanese tradition to other people, then we’ll be able to have more opportunities to promote the prestige of Japan as a nation to other countries.
To sum up, I believe that people in modern societies should study more about history. (176 words)
