英検1級2次試験:Should the pet industry be tightly regulated?

Should the pet industry be tightly regulated?

(ペット産業は厳しく規制されるべきか?)

I’m against the opinion that the pet industry should be regulated.

I have two reasons to support my opinion.

First, pets often enrich people’s daily lives. For example, we can relax our minds by spending our free time with pets, leading to better mental condition. Also, pets often enable us to think about the importance of being thoughtful of others. Plus, according to some researchers, it is said that the blood pressure of those who get in touch with pets frequently tends to be much lower than other people. In these ways, pets enhance our quality of lives.

Second, strict regulation on pet industry has negative impact on the economy. According to recent data, it is estimated that around 50% of households nowadays keep pets in their homes in Japan. This means that various kinds of goods related with pets such as pet foods, sanitary goods, and toys are enjoying brisk sales. However, if the industry were regulated by the government, then the profits for manufacturers of those goods would diminish dramatically.

From these two perspectives, I don’t believe that the pet industry should be tightly regulated. (187 words)
