I’m against the opinion that concerns about the safety of genetically modified foods are warranted.

I have two reasons to support my opinion.

First, producers of genetically modified crops use too many herbicides. One of the reported benefits of genetically modified crops is that they are resistant to chemical substances that kill weeds. Some may argue that this is good trend because these crops can be protected by potential dangers like insects that eat weeds. However, most herbicides contain harmful substances for humankinds, which may lead to various kinds of health problems.

Second, we don’t have enough information about genetically modified organisms. The main disadvantage of GMOs is that cell mutations are likely to occur. We need to make efforts to decrease the risk of it as much as possible. However, the reality is that reliable safety data can only be released by scientists without a conflict of interest, and it is very difficult for us to obtain them.

From these reasons, I don’t believe that concerns about the safety of genetically modified foods are warranted. (176 words)
