Can keeping animals in captivity be justified?

I’m of the opinion that keeping animals in captivity can be justified.

I have two reasons to support my opinion.

First, by doing so, we can protect animals from various kinds of dangers. Wildlife animals are exposed to various kinds of dangers. For example, it is very difficult for them to predict when they are eaten by other aggressive animals. Also, there are lots of animals that are killed by infectious diseases, traffic accidents, and other humankind’s activities. By keeping animals in shelters, we can at least save these animal’s lives.

Second, it even has economic values. One of the typical examples of them is pet industry. According to recent data, over 50% of households are nowadays keeping animals in their own homes in Japan. This means that goods that are related pets such as pet foods, sanitary goods, and even toys are enjoying brisk sales. Also, some zoos attract millions of people every year. These visitors spend lots of money in local areas.

In conclusion, I believe that keeping animals in captivity can be justified. (176 words)
