Is energy self-sufficiency vital for a nation in today’s world?

I’m of the opinion that energy self-sufficiency is vital for a nation in today’s world.

I have two reasons to support my opinion.

First, the amounts of natural resources available is diminishing dramatically. The human population is increasing stably, and it is estimated that the number will reach around 10 billion by 2050. Also, large-scale developing countries are consuming natural resources recklessly in order to develop the countries efficiently. Under the situation, experts warn us that resources for power generation such as fossil fuel will disappear in the next few decades.

Second, we’re not sure if countries can continue to import resources for power generation from other nations in the future. Nowadays, the warfare between Russia and Ukraine is becoming serious. Since many countries have been imported gas from Russia, many experts point out that it will be very difficult to provide sufficient electricity to citizens sustainably. In order to avoid such a situation, it is vital for each nation to develop the ways of generating electricity by itself.

In conclusion, I believe that energy self-sufficiency is vital for a nation in today’s world. (184 words)
