Should more be done to protect the cultures of the world’s indigenous peoples?

It’s vital for us to make more efforts to protect the cultures of the world’s indigenous peoples.

I’ll explain from two viewpoints.

First, we need to compensate for the past exploitation of indigenous people. Historically, wealthy countries have destroyed the ways of lives of others. The typical example of this is indigenous people in Australia. About 200 years ago, people in Europe exploited lands of them and killed lots of people brutally. Since these actions are one of the causes of current discrimination against minority groups, the world should help them overcome problems.

Second, the efforts have economic values. It is often the case that unique traditional cultures are attractive for visitors from foreign countries. For example, lots of people have visited Kyoto to experience traditional cultures in Japan. Likewise, cultures of indigenous people have power to attract great amounts of people. In fact, festivals that are related to Ainu people’s cultures are held so frequently, and many visitors from outside of Hokkaido pay huge amounts of money.

In conclusion, I believe that more should be done to protect the cultures of world’s indigenous peoples. (185 words)

本日25歳になりました。お祝いのメッセージをくれた家族や友人には感謝でいっぱいです。

幼いころに漠然と抱いていた「25歳」のイメージには到底及んでいない(精神年齢が未熟なまま、身体だけオッサン化している)と思ってしまい、何とも言えない心境です。苦笑
