英検1級2次試験:Is enough being done to fight the trade in illegal drugs?

Is enough being done to fight the trade in illegal drugs?

(違法薬物の取引への対策は十分か?)

I think that more should be done to combat the trade in illegal drugs.

I have two reasons to support my opinion.

First, police should make more efforts to patrol the action of drug dealers. Because of the technological advancement, it is becoming easier for ordinary citizens to purchase illegal drugs from abroad. Also, many drug dealers are trying to obtain these drugs by using prepaid cellphones. Plus, the arrest rates of smuggling illegal drugs are much lower than other nations. There mean that police need to deal with the trade in illegal drugs more seriously than they used to be.

Second, more strict punishment should be imposed on the users or dealers of illegal drugs. In fact, possessing or using these drugs are regarded relatively petty crimes in Japan, On the other hand, in some countries like China or Singapore, trading illegal drugs sometimes deserves death penalty. Officials of these countries impose such serious punishments because they understand that these drugs often destroy citizen’s lives.

To sum up, I don’t believe that enough is being done to fight the trade in illegal drugs. (184 words)
