英検1級2次試験:Is there enough emphasis on the sciences in higher education today?

Is there enough emphasis on the sciences in higher education today?

(現在の高等教育では、理系科目が十分に重要視されているか?)

I’m of the opinion that there is enough emphasis on the sciences in higher education.

I have two reasons to support my opinion.

First, more and more numbers of high school students are nowadays learning about science. For example, in Japan, most students are asked to take attend classes regarding IT skills such as programming and information literacy, and so on. Also, Japanese government announced that taking examination about IT will be mandatory for high school students who wish to enter national university from 2025.

Second, lots of universities allow students to learn a wider variety of courses these days. In the past, it was often the case that students majoring humanities were not able to take courses regarding mathematics, physics, and some others. Whereas, for instance, students at University of Tsukuba can take virtually all kinds of lessons regardless of their major. Thanks to this system, many students are able to acquire high scientific skills.

From these two perspectives, I believe that there is enough emphasis on the sciences in higher education today. (173 words)

結論:Agree

①大半の高校生が理系の授業を受ける(例:情報リテラシー)

②大学で受けられる講義の幅の広がり

英作文で具体例に母校を使う日が来るとは思っていませんでした。笑
