I’m against the opinion that it is too late to prevent the loss of biodiversity. There are promising technologies to prevent this.
I’ll explain two examples of them to support my belief.
First is genetic engineering. The world population is increasing steadily, and the number is estimated to reach around 10 billion by 2050. Some people are having concern that large amounts of trees will be cut down in order to cultivate crops enough to feed the growing population. However, genetic engineering often allows farmers to cultivate them more efficiently. As a result, the rate of deforestation for agricultural purposes will slow down.
Second is cloning technology. According to some researchers, between 200 and 2,000 animal species become extinct every year. With cloning technology, we can repair some of the damage in the future. Some may argue that cloning is too dangerous because it often causes cell mutation. But success rate of cloning research is increasing dramatically.
When taking these technologies into consideration, I don’t believe that it is too late to prevent the loss of biodiversity. (177 words)
