英検1級2次試験:Agree or disagree: Social class is still relevant in modern society

Agree or disagree: Social class is still relevant in modern society

(賛成か反対か:社会階級は現代社会においても重要である)

I’m against the opinion that social class is still important in modern society.

I have two reasons to support my opinion.

First, a university degree is no longer one of the requirements for earning large amount of money in Japan. Many companies are starting to realize that there are highly skilled workers even if they don’t graduate from good universities. In particular, software corporations tend to check whether prospective employees have specific skills such as programming or designing when they hire new workers.

Second, caste system in India is gradually losing its importance. In the past, people with low hierarchy can do only repetitive, menial, or even dangerous tasks no matter how they are intelligent. However, nowadays people living in India have much more chances to obtain respectable, high-paying jobs regardless of their social class. For example, people with high calculation mathematical skills tend to be IT engineers, and the number of them is increasing in the last few decades.

Although social class still exists in some part of our society, I believe that it is losing its relevance today. (179 words)
