Is prison an effective form of punishment?

I’m of the opinion that prison is an effective form of punishment.

I have two reasons to support my opinion.

First, once criminals go to jail, then they lose their freedom. For example, actions that the ordinary people can do such as eating favorite foods, taking a look at smartphone, and talking with their family members at any time is strictly prohibited inside of jail. Also, most prisons don’t have air conditioners. When people think about such bad living conditions, many of them will stop committing crimes.

Second, prison is a good way to discourage criminals from returning to criminal activities. For example, by working inside of the factory, they can obtain specific skills that they can use for the rest of their lives. Also, nowadays many prisons are doing activities that encourage criminals to cooperate with others. Thanks to these kinds of activities, the number of criminals that commit crimes again is decreasing year by year.

From these two reasons, I believe that prison is an effective form of punishment. (171 words)

結構突っ込みどころが多い(「再犯率が下がっているとはいえ、まだまだ高いのでは？」「出所後の職探しに力を入れている刑務所は少ないのでは？」…etc)原稿ですが、他の有効な刑罰の方法が思い浮かばなかったので、賛成側の立場で文章を書いてみました。

重罪を犯した犯罪者に、罰金のみを課すのはあまり得策とは言えないでしょうし。。

また、関連問題として「賛成か反対か：有罪となった殺人犯を二度と娑婆に戻すべきではない」みたいなトピックも見たことがある気がします。時間があったら書いてみようと思います。
